  • Hours: Monday-Friday, day shift
  • Pay Rate: $19.69- $21.41 per hour

THE TEAM

The Operations Department at Portland Rescue Mission (PRM) is a group of dedicated professionals using their operational skills for life-changing Christian ministry. Our goal is to participate in what God is doing in the lives of the men, women and children we serve at PRM with integrity and excellence. In doing this, we honor the high calling of serving those in need, knowing that excellent resource management and accountability create a sustainable environment in which our ministry can flourish. 

THE POSITION

The Warehouse Specialist is responsible for overseeing all aspects of our in-kind donation supply chain as they manage the transportation, handling, storage, and accurate documentation of these crucial resources. Through expert warehouse management, this person will guarantee the timely and secure movement of goods from our generous donors to our facilities and the partner agencies we proudly support. This work will be accomplished as the Warehouse Specialist leads and mentors a group of program participants, creating vibrant vocational training within the Drive Away Hunger and Fresh Start Catering social enterprises. This person will also be responsible for the ongoing safe operation, thorough record-keeping, and proactive maintenance of our warehouse equipment fleet. 

THE ESSENTIALS

  • Effectively manage and prioritize transportation and warehousing needs according to urgency, and ensure the safe and efficient flow of in-kind donations.
  • Manage and supervise program participants and provide training to support future employment opportunities.
  • Participate in PRM’s safety committee to advance the missions culture of safety and oversee the driver training program for our fleet vehicles providing both driven and written tests for new drivers.
  • Ensure that inter-mission mail service is delivered timely and consistently among the PRM locations.
  • Promptly respond to transportation, handling, and storage requests and build positive relationships with donors and supporters
  • Oversee safe operation of forklift and other warehouse equipment. Provide trainings and certifications for all involved staff, residents, and volunteers.

BACKGROUND AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • A passionate relationship with Jesus Christ and a testimony of continued growth in faith

  • Agreement with Portland Rescue Mission’s Statement of Faith and Code of Ethics
  • Experience in a warehouse and transportation setting
  • A clean driving record with ODL license (CDL a plus)
  • Forklift certification or willingness to obtain one
  • Good communication skills, with a focus on customer service
  • Experience in Microsoft Windows software
  • Ability to pass PRM van and truck driving tests
  • Ability to sit and drive for long periods of time
  • Ability to get into and out of the trucks-both the cabs and the backs
  • Ability to lift at least 80 lbs. unassisted
