Portland Rescue Mission

Position: Receptionist for Drive Away Hunger

Department: Drive Away Hunger

Work Location: Drive Away Hunger

Reports to: Drive Away Hunger Administrative Manager

Employment Status: Part Time, Regular, Non-Exempt

Effective Date: October 2017

Typical Hours Required: Monday – Friday, 16 - 24 hours per week

Pay Rate: Hourly rate depending on experience 

General Description of Work:

The Receptionist greets and assists callers and visitors to the Drive-Away-Hunger (DAH) program. As a “first point of contact” they attempt to meet the needs of people desiring to donate their vehicle or purchase one of ours.  The Receptionist also helps uphold a safe and secure environment for DAH. Duties include: Accepting titles or other documents of ownership from donors, data entry to add the vehicle to the DAH inventory, creating a donation receipt, dispatching towing vendors, completing paper files for records, referring purchasing customers to sales staff, completing test-drive agreements, mailing out donation receipts and other records to donors and general office filing. This position is a mix of office tasks, reception coverage, engagement with staff and equipping of residents, volunteers, and the community. 

The right candidate will have a true can-do attitude, a warm and hospitable demeanor, a passion for engaging donors and customers, value organization and time-management, and a heart to assist and come alongside a Supervisor with a wide variety of projects.  They will thrive in a creative and fast-paced environment and enjoy helping create a workplace where people love to work with them. 

Essential Functions

  • Oversee all functions of the Reception Desk
  • Answer phones and take messages
  • Take donations at front desk, give receipts and information about PRM and other community resources
  • Create test drive agreements for customers
  • Prepare files for auctions and recycling buyers
  • Send letters out to donors
  • Other clerical duties as assigned
