OVERVIEW

Portland Rescue Mission is seeking a Women’s Growth Counselor. This experienced, licensed counselor will deliver compassionate care for people experiencing substance use disorder as they join a Christ-centered staff with an award-winning culture and a commitment to serving women with comprehensive care – addictions recovery programming, life skills training and spiritual growth – leading to long-term success (About 80% of the women who have graduated from the one-year New Life residential program in the past five years remain in housing and addiction free)

  • Reports To: Women's Addiction Recovery Team Manager
  • Hours: Available shifts between Monday-Friday 8AM-4:30PM 

THE PLACE 

Shepherd’s Door, Portland Rescue Mission’s women’s facility, is set in a retreat-like setting located in East Portland, designed specifically to support the transformation and growth of women, and women with children, impacted by homelessness and addiction. This 42,000 square foot facility has the capacity to serve 42 adults and 25 children.

THE POSITION

The Women’s Growth Counselor will provide counseling services to program participants at Shepherd’s Door, supporting their growth in discipleship, addictions recovery and healthy living. The Women’s Growth Counselor will address core areas such as grief, trauma and relationship challenges allowing residents to experience freedom from addiction and unhealthy cycles. This person will actively collaborate with the delivery of Genesis Process and other recovery education as well as providing classroom delivery as necessary. The integration of Christian discipleship, life skills, addictions recovery into counseling services and a passion for using proven counseling techniques in a life on life discipleship setting is essential for success.

THE ESSENTIALS

  • Oversee outcomes focused counseling ministry at Shepherd’s Door with defined services, clear procedures and outside referral options when necessary
  • Work in collaboration with Shepherd’s Door Recovery Team by providing necessary counseling services in grief, trauma, addictions, relationships and more in order to support program participant growth as outlined in the Growth Plan (treatment plan)
  • Integrate the gospel and biblical principles in all aspects of the work so that program participants grow towards Christian maturity
  • Clearly communicate with Shepherd's Door staff regarding the ongoing growth of each program participant through the use of the following tools: DAP case notes, Resident Growth Plan, the Resident Tracker Database, and weekly Participant Review meeting
  • Support best practices in program services and integration of Life Skills, Addictions Recovery and Spiritual Formation into participant growth process
  • Support the delivery of New Life Ministry curriculum and Genesis Process Relapse Prevention, teaching classes and leading groups as necessary  
  • Assist in crisis counseling and pastoral care

BACKGROUND AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • A passionate relationship with Jesus Christ and a testimony of continued growth in faith
  • A calling to serve women and women with children impacted by homelessness and addiction
  • Licensed counselor in State of Oregon (LPC)
  • At least 5 years of experience in Counseling Ministry
  • Alcohol/drug certification (CADC) preferred but not required
  • Knowledge of chemical dependency, addiction recovery and counseling specific to relapse prevention
  • Proficient in documentation, organization, scheduling and classroom participation
  • Agreement with Portland Rescue Mission’s Statement of Faith and Code of Ethics
