THE ADMINISTRATION TEAM

The Administration Department at Portland Rescue Mission is based at the Shepherd's Door ministry location and consists of a group of approximately 15 dedicated professionals using their skills to participate in what God is doing to bring hope and restore life to men, women, and women with children impacted by homelessness and/or addiction. We honor this high calling by serving with excellence and integrity to help the ministry of Portland Rescue Mission flourish. 

THE POSITION

The Ministry Communications Specialist is responsible for developing, designing and producing in-house print materials thereby furthering the Portland Rescue Mission brand and creating a consistency of image, assuring quality and comprehensiveness of documentation, and providing time-sensitive service to the ministry documentation needs of Portland Rescue Mission. As needed, this position will support external communication to the Portland Rescue Mission donor community in collaboration with the marketing team.

THE ESSENTIALS

  • Create digital and print materials that are high quality, clear, and consistent with Portland Rescue Mission brand and image, working in partnership with key staff so that a primarily internal audience (i.e. program participants, guests, and staff) engage in and understand Portland Rescue Mission culture, ministries, and services
  • Oversee internal communications ensuring that print materials carry a consistent and clear image that reinforces the Portland Rescue Mission brand
  • Design and produce necessary program participant handbooks, forms, and documents and equip staff to maintain a high level of quality for all print materials used by program participants and guests
  • Support the variety of internal signage and print material requests while also equipping staff to uphold a high standard for all print materials that they both use and produce themselves
  • Support the variety of manuals, documents, forms and reports for various ministry departments that carry the Portland Rescue Mission brand and image (e.g. miscellaneous brochures and collateral materials)
  • Partner with the Marketing team to maintain a consistent image, provide support for projects as needed
  • When called upon, directly serve program clients with Christian care in duties such as spiritual care and prayer

BACKGROUND AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • A personal relationship with Jesus Christ as Savior and a testimony of continued growth in faith
  • Spiritual maturity as defined by traditional Biblical Standards
  • Adheres to Portland Rescue Mission's Statement of Faith and Code of Ethics
  • Embrace the Portland Rescue Mission ministry culture of being a Highly Relational, Christ-centered, Joyful Servant 
  • Desire to serve God in the ministry to hurting men, women and children
  • Professional-level graphic design skills – SAMPLES REQUIRED.
  • College degree in communications, graphic design, or equivalent
  • Experience in developing or maintaining organization-wide documentation systems strongly preferred
  • Experience serving people impacted by homelessness and addictions recovery environments preferred
  • Proven excellence in creating forms, procedures, brochures and handbooks/manuals
  • Proficient with Mac operating system and InDesign, Photoshop and MS Word & PowerPoint applications
  • Excellent written communication and editing skills
  • Strong creative skills and a genuine acceptance of constructive feedback with a “can do” attitude
  • Ability to lift at least 50 lbs. unassisted
